Parashat Vayak'heil (February 26, 2011)

In Parashat Vayak’heil we see the official start to the construction of the Tabernacle, and Bezalel and Oholiab are named as what today we might refer to as “project managers.” It’s an important event — the first communal construction of something resembling a synagogue in recorded Jewish history. (Although, it may not be so historical, of course.) God asks the people to donate time and materials if their hearts are so moved, and people end up giving so much that Moses has to tell people to stop giving.
