he 11 students in our democratically elected Student Council, led by sixth grade teacher Mark Willner, have selected the UJA-Federation of New York as the next beneficiary of our schoolwide tzedakah fundraising. From February 10, 2008, through the end of March 2008, all funds collected by our students will go to this organization.

Through a network of more than 100 agencies in New York and around the globe, UJA-Federation works to fulfill its mission to care for those in need, to rescue those in harm’s way, and to renew and strengthen the Jewish people.

  • CARING: UJA-Federation reaches out to the poor, the elderly and people in need, providing social and humanitarian services in New York and around the world.
  • RESCUING: UJA-Federation connects communities worldwide by aiding Jews in distress and by strengthening and sustaining Jewish communities from Belarus to Buenos Aires.
  • RENEWING: UJA-Federation supports programs to make Jewish education more meaningful, to deepen Jewish identity, and to recruit and train dynamic professionals to serve the community.

Many thanks to our student council members: Rachel Goldstein, Abby Morse-Golub, Max Morse-Golub, Amy Katsamakis, Zoe Katsamakis, Jacob King, Zach Krivine, Adrien Gardner Lesser, Charlotte Markstein, Elena Nisonoff and Sam Weintraub. Based on input from their classmates, these students will select one or two additional noteworthy organizations that we will support through our tzedakah collection later in the school year.
