Open-Seating Services

In addition to our formal High Holy Days services in the Fifth Avenue and
Leon Lowenstein sanctuaries, Temple Emanu-El offers a variety of other services appropriate for adults and children alike. Tickets are required for entry and will be sent automatically to all temple families with children 18 and under. Others may request tickets through the links below.

Shir Chadash: A New Song

As part of High Holy Day services, we offer a Shir Chadash service to each holiday (8 PM on the Eve of Rosh Hashanah and 5:30 PM on the Eve of Yom Kippur). Shir Chadash features a contemporary liturgy interspersed with Chasidic tales and other teachings. The music, led by a vocalist and instrumentalists, is informal and participatory. Tickets for temple members are available by request at no additional charge. Note: Tickets will be sent automatically to all member families with children under the age of 18. All are welcome!

Nonmembers may request Shir Chadash tickets here.

Family Worship Services

Tickets for Family Worship Services are available at no additional charge to all members with young children and to all our Nursery School and Religious School parents who wish to attend services with their children and extended families. (Tickets will be sent automatically to all member families with children under the age of 18.) The Rosh Hashanah service is followed by a reception and Tashlich, a symbolic ritual in which we “cast away” our sins, acknowledging the importance and complexity of repentance in a tangible way. The Yom Kippur service is followed by a visit to the Herbert & Eileen Bernard Museum of Judaica.

Pre-Readers Services

Held on both Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur, this service for toddlers, preschoolers and kindergarteners and their parents is geared for our youngest children to understand and enjoy, with music and a story. Tickets are available at no additional charge.

Teen Worship Services

All Emanu-El teens in grades 7 through 12 are invited to a special Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur service just for them! The services are conducted in a manner that is appropriate and engaging specifically for teens. Parents of teens are invited to attend, but teens certainly may attend on their own. Teen friends also are invited. New this year: Tickets are required.

All questions regarding seating and tickets should be directed to the Membership Office.
