SUMMARY:Friday Evening Worship: Shared Histories, Shared Futures Initiative Launch
DESCRIPTION:\n\n\n\n\n\n\nJoin us for the inaugural session of Shared Histories, Shared Futures: The Arielle Patrick & Aaron Goldstein Initiative on Black–Jewish Relations, a new multi-year series exploring our shared past and the work ahead.\nThe series opens with a special Shabbat service featuring Rabbi Tamar Manasseh and Dr. Susannah Heschel on our bimah, in an honest, thoughtful conversation about the state of Black–Jewish relations, moderated by Alvin Patrick, Executive Producer at CBS News.\nRabbi Manasseh, the first woman ordained by the International Israelite Board of Rabbis, is a nationally recognized social justice leader and the subject of the documentary Rabbi on the Block. Through her rabbinate, she has built bridges across communities and confronted violence at its roots. Dr. Heschel, professor of Jewish Studies at Dartmouth College and daughter of Abraham Joshua Heschel, continues his legacy through her scholarship and public engagement on religion, race, and justice.\nShared Histories, Shared Futures is generously funded by longtime Temple Emanu-El members Arielle Patrick and Aaron Goldstein. Grounded in the legacy of Black–Jewish partnership during the Civil Rights Movement, the series will explore how antisemitism and racism intersect today while elevating voices that model inclusive leadership and shared responsibility.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nMore About the Speakers\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nSusannah Heschel\nProfessor and Chair of Jewish Studies, Dartmouth College \n\nSusannah Heschel is the Eli M.
