SUMMARY:Women of Emanu-El: LES Gangster Tour with Historian Brad Shaw
DESCRIPTION:Explore the origins of Jewish underworld leaders’ criminal careers. Figures like Arnold Rothstein, Meir Lansky, and Bugsy Siegel, notorious gangsters with activities spanning Atlantic City, Miami, Cuba, and Las Vegas, all started on New York’s Lower East Side. We will investigate where their illicit journeys began, considering questions of morality and power, and reflect on how assimilation influenced their paths. Use your imagination to visualize historical sites linked to these Jewish gangsters.\nAn optional lunch will follow.\n
