SUMMARY:Honor Our Past, Imagine Our Future To Commemorate the 60th Anniversary of the Passage of New York City’s Landmarks Law
DESCRIPTION:Walk almost any neighborhood in New York City and the past inevitably collides with the future, since the city is ever-evolving. Today, New York City’s legislation provides protected status to 158 historic districts, 1,464 individual landmarks, 123 interior landmarks and even 12 scenic landmarks.\nTo commemorate the 60th anniversary of the law’s passage, American preservationist and historian Barbaralee Diamonstein-Spielvogel commissioned some of the most significant and creative architecture critics, engineers, landscape architects, historians and scholars to explore the complex history of New York City’s evolution and its future.\nJoin us for a lively discussion about the impact, legacy and current and future status of historic preservation in New York City. The discussion is meant to inspire reflection, hope and excitement about the future of the NEW New York City, its complex history and its never-ending transformation.\nWith:\nAdam Gopnik\nPaul Goldberger\nJustin Davidson\nVishaan Chakrabarti\nLisa Switkin\nModerated by Rea Hederman, Publisher, The New York Review of Books\n \nMonday, April 28 | \n6:30 pm Eastern\nFree admission\n$99 reserved seating section + copy of the book\n
