180 Faces of Emanu-El: Andy C.

Meet Andy C., a member of Temple Emanu-El for nearly 60 years. He is a familiar and friendly face in the Fifth Avenue Sanctuary and throughout the Temple Emanu-El campus. Andy has been a High Holy Days volunteer for more than 40 years, is president of the Men’s Club, and is a longtime Shabbat greeter.

Andy reflects on a lifetime of membership, service, and memories at Temple Emanu-El.

“At the end of a service where I have served as a High Holy Days volunteer, I feel that I have truly done a mitzvah to Temple Emanu-El, to God, and to myself.

I met my wife through volunteering as an usher at Temple Emanu-El. Our son was also involved as a High Holy Days volunteer when he was 14 years old.

Serving as a High Holy Days volunteer has made me feel I am doing my duties to God. It’s been a rewarding experience. It’s an experience I would not trade for anything. It’s provided me with a sense of accomplishment and commitment.”
