Two vibrant stained glass windows with intricate designs fill the sanctuary with colorful light, illuminating the stone walls of Temple Emanu-El in New York City.

Daily Sunset Services

We love seeing our members at Shabbat services—an uplifting pause in the rhythm of the week. While daily communal worship with a minyan (a quorum of ten) is less common in Reform Judaism, it offers a meaningful opportunity for connection, reflection, and spiritual grounding.

Since 1945, Temple Emanu-El’s Men’s Club has sustained the Daily Sunset Service, a brief, lay-led, classical Reform service using the Union Prayer Book. Now fully online, this evening ritual offers a sacred space for prayer, quiet reflection, or honoring a loved one.

Whether you’re reciting Kaddish, seeking a moment of peace, or longing for Jewish connection, the Daily Sunset Service welcomes you, wherever you are.

Volunteer as a Reader for the Daily Sunset Service

This beloved Emanu-El tradition is sustained entirely by volunteer readers, women and men of all ages from across the congregation. Since moving fully online during the pandemic, it’s never been easier to participate.

While the Readers Panel remains under the auspices of the Men’s Club, participation is open to all members, including teens who have completed their b’nei mitzvah studies. Readers typically lead about once a month, and many find it to be a deeply fulfilling way to give back. No experience or Hebrew knowledge is required.
