Susan Kaufman, a champion of Temple Emanu-El’s Tikkun Olam Committee and community service efforts, was honored as one of the “Women of Distinction” by New York State Assembly Member Rebecca Seawright. Kaufman was one of 23 women from the Upper East Side Seawright recognized during an April ceremony at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center.
As co-chair of Temple Emanu-El’s Tikkun Olam Committee, Kaufman oversees the temple’s major volunteer programs, including Project Prom, Mitzvah Day, and the annual Thanksgiving Dinner, as well as mitzvah efforts throughout the year. Each year, Kaufman and her co-chairs, Marlene Yokel and Lori Villi, along with the Tikkun Olam Committee and temple volunteers help thousands of New Yorkers access food, clothing, and other essential services. Among the dozens of recipient partner organizations, some as far away as the Pacific Palisades, the name Susan Kaufman is synonymous with generosity, respect and help. We are so fortunate that she has been involved in volunteer efforts at Temple Emanu-El for 25 years.
