Streicker Center: NY-12 Candidate Forum

On June 23, 2026, Democrats in New York’s 12th Congressional District will have an opportunity to select their nominee to replace Jewish Congressman, Jerrold Nadler, who is retiring after 34 years on Capitol Hill. Given that the district – which stretches the width of Manhattan, and from Union Square to the top of Central Park – is solidly blue, the winner of the Democratic primary is likely to triumph in the November election. Join us in the final weeks of the primary to hear about the issues Jewish voters care most about from three of the leading candidates for this coveted seat:

Alex Bores, a two-term state assemblyman representing parts of Manhattan’s East Side, is a native Upper East Sider.

Laura Dunn is an attorney and former public school teacher running to represent NY-12 in Congress. Throughout her career, she has contributed to the Violence Against Women Act (VAWA), developed federal guidance on Title IX and worked for the Chair of the US Senate Judiciary Committee.

Micah Lasher, formerly aide to Nadler, director of state legislative affairs under Mayor Bloomberg and chief of staff to NY Attorney General Eric Schneiderman; currently a 1st term assemblyman.

Jack Schlossberg, political commentator, grandson of JFK and son of former ambassador to Japan and Australia, Caroline Kennedy.

Nina Schwalbe, MPH, PhD, is a public health leader and policy expert who has spent her career fixing broken systems and connecting people to life-saving care. As a scientist, fighter and a mom, Nina has used her voice – from the PTA to the G7– to stand up for change.

The conversation will be moderated by Halie Soifer, Chief Executive Officer, Jewish Democratic Council of America.
