From Carrie to Emily: Inside the Mind of Darren Star

Darren Star was just 27 when he created Beverly Hills, 90210, barely into his 30s when he brought viewers into Melrose Place, and not yet 40 when he sent Carrie Bradshaw shopping for shoes in Sex and the City. Not bad for a Jewish kid from the Washington, DC, suburbs.

Star went on to create Younger and the global Netflix phenomenon Emily in Paris, building a career around defining television series, iconic characters, and cities that become characters themselves.

The Emmy- and Golden Globe–winning writer, director, and producer, recently awarded France’s Légion d’honneur, joins Lorne Bycoff to discuss the changing television landscape, the stories behind his greatest hits, his fascination with ambitious women, and the subtle ways Judaism has shaped his work.
