VIDEO: In Solidarity with Central Synagogue

"The diversity of religious traditions in New York City is one of its most beautiful gifts. A tapestry all of us must work to protect. A set of values and dreams that all of us might worship in safety and in peace."

Joshua M. Davidson

Peter and Mary Kalikow Senior Rabbinic Chair

On behalf of the entire Temple Emanu-El community, Rabbi Joshua M. Davidson voices a message of support for Central Synagogue. Both Reform congregations are located mere blocks apart in New York City with overlapping communities.

On August 14, 2026, during Shabbat Evening services, a man violently disrupted worship, was quickly subdued by security, arrested and charged with a hate crime. No one was seriously injured, and Central’s services resumed. The incident was an alarming reminder of the rise in antisemitic attacks across the city and spiritual leaders across all faith backgrounds quickly came together to denounce hatred.
