Horizons in Religion: Dr. Malina Buturovic on Heredity in Ancient Greek Thought

Horizons in Religion is a series of scholarly talks that brings emerging research in religion to Temple Emanu-El. Speakers include public intellectuals, ivy league professors, and professionals working in the field. The theme of this year’s series is religious experience and expression.

Journey to the ancient Greek world and explore the writings of the medical philosopher Galen in this lecture presented by Dr. Malina Buturovic. A professor of Classics at Yale University, Dr. Buturovic will delve into the concept of hereditary resemblance before the discovery of genetics, a time when the self was thought to be shaped by notions of justice, the four humors, and the laws of nature.
