Some of France’s most celebrated filmmakers have been Jews who trained their lenses on the complexities of life in their community. Claude Berri, Diane Kurys, Claude Lelouch and Gerard Oury built stories around anti-Semitism, the Nazi occupation, the courage of their Christian countrymen and Arab-Jewish relations.
This course will focus on how these directors portrayed the realities of French Jews through the screening of some of their most famous films, including The Mad Adventures of Rabbi Jacob, For a Woman, Little Jerusalem and They Are Everywhere.
