Tikkun Olam in Action: Bringing the Joy of Reading to Head Start Students

Thanks to the generosity of our Temple Emanu-El community this summer, children in a Head Start program in the Bronx are enjoying the gift of beautiful picture books. These are treasures they can open again and again.

The collection, organized through our Tikkun Olam Committee, will be enjoyed in two ways. Some books will be added to classroom libraries, while others will be given to each child as a personal gift to take home at the year-end moving up ceremony.

“We recognize the importance of having books at home to grow their curiosity and interest in reading, to develop their language skills, and to strengthen the home/school connection,” shared Nadine from the Head Start program. “Thank you so much for providing this enhancement for our students’ education; you are helping us to get them prepared for kindergarten. What could be more important?”

We are deeply grateful to everyone who contributed to this effort. Your kindness is planting seeds for a lifelong love of learning.
