Dear Friends,
At a frightening moment of rising anti-Semitic expression in America, manifest in recent days alone in hateful graffiti in Washington DC, misrepresentation of the Holocaust on a popular daytime talk show, synagogues vandalized in Chicago, and of course the attack on Congregation Beth Israel in Colleyville, Texas, we must also respond to slanderous attacks on Israel. Below is our Reform Movement’s condemnation of a dangerous Amnesty International UK report. While anti-Israel rhetoric does not necessarily begin with anti-Semitism, too often it incites it, hatred of Israel fueling hatred of Jews. Fair-minded observers can legitimately criticize policies of the Israeli government, but the criticism must be legitimate and it must be fair. And when it is not, we must respond.
